2023 Kitchen Trends: Ignore Them

The new year is inevitably the time you will read about what’s “hot” and what’s “not” in kitchen design. What I find amusing is how often the “experts” contradict each other. I just read an article where an “expert” firmly stated that the all-white kitchen is “out” and then followed it up with another “expert” stating how all-white kitchens are here to stay. It’s no wonder that homeowners get so overwhelmed when it comes to designing their kitchen remodel! My advice? Before you latch onto the latest trend, ask yourself a few questions. Will this style blend nicely into the rest of your home? Will it fit into your budget, or will you have to give up a want or need for the sake of design? Will you have to give up functionality? How long before the look becomes dated?

Your House, Your Kitchen, Your Style

You’ll find a lot of interesting ideas in online magazines and on home improvement tv shows, and some will be labeled “must haves” or “the latest style.” Use these trends as inspiration, but don’t lose your own sense of style. When designing your kitchen remodel, think about how it will fit into the rest of your house. Will it blend seamlessly, or will it look out of place? Even the trendiest modern kitchen will look awkward in a Bucks County farmhouse. Work with our designers to marry your home’s character, your personal style, and the amenities you want to create a kitchen that is unique but still you.

Trends Are Expensive

Having the latest and greatest in your new kitchen remodel certainly desirable, but don’t sacrifice quality in other areas to get it. This can be especially true when it comes to smart appliances and the latest fixtures. They can gobble up your budget and leave you cutting costs on flooring, cabinetry, countertops, and other materials. Look at the big picture and work with our designers to get the best quality materials, features, and amenities within your budget.

Trends Become Dated Quickly

How long do you plan on staying in your home? Will your new kitchen be tired and dated by the time you plan to sell? Looking long-term should be part of your planning process. A quality kitchen is one of the more important features when reselling – it can add significant value – but a dated kitchen can turn off buyers and lower the value, as well. It works both ways. It may be wise, based on your situation, to think “Classic” style over “Trendy.” A classic kitchen has wide appeal. It can also be more easily updated when that time comes. So, when you come across a show or article highlighting the kitchen trends for 2023, take it with a grain of salt. Use those “trends” – which are really just other people’s opinions – as inspiration for your own design. Take those ideas to a design-build contractor like LBK and work with them to help you make the best decisions based on your style, wants, needs, and budget.
