DESIGN CONCEPT

This homeowner wanted to expand their kitchen to accommodate their growing family and for social gatherings. They wanted their space to look timeless and inviting and opted for a transitional style that combined elements of rustic, traditional, and farmhouse styles. To better handle busy mornings with the kids and for parties, we added benches in front of the window and on the island. The darker flooring and island color beautifully contrasts with the bright cabinetry creating a rustic vibe alongside the brick veneer backsplash.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original kitchen design featured a wall separating it from the dining room, which made the kitchen feel even smaller. Its L-shaped layout that surrounded a small, central island didn’t maximize the use of space, especially since the family preferred to eat in the kitchen rather than the dining room. However, apart from these issues, the general structure would stay the same, allowing us to focus mainly on cosmetic upgrades.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

We first tore down the separating wall to enlarge the space by incorporating the old dining room. This gave us room to extend the cabinetry and countertops, providing extra prep space for the family. Next, we installed a larger island with more storage and extra seating space. We also built two pantries next to the hall entrance and increased the storage space next to the basement door by extending the smaller counter. On the other side of the room, we built another pantry and installed bench seating under the new window.

The family wanted to keep the same look with the flooring they had previously, so our team patched in new floor to match the existing flooring.

The cabinetry features matte black hardware for a classic, timeless, and neutral style.

We used thin brick veneer for the backsplash, mimicking the home’s exterior.

CABINETS

The kitchen features Legacy Crafted Cabinets in the Hamilton door style in “origami white.” The kitchen island is from the same island but in an “inkwell” color to add contrast and interest. The cabinetry features matte black hardware for a classic, timeless, and neutral style. The Legacy curved hood lends a traditional feel to the space and serves as an interesting focal point.

TILE AND STONE

We used thin brick veneer for the backsplash, mimicking the home’s exterior. This choice adds plenty of color and texture to the room, perfectly complementing its straightforward, clean palette. To maintain the classic look the family wanted, we also included a white shiplap design on the remaining walls.

The finished kitchen remodel brings a refreshed sense of purpose and ease to daily routines and social moments alike. Reworking the layout improved the flow between prep, cook, and gathering areas, making movement through the space feel more natural and intuitive. Material and finish choices were selected to create a cohesive palette that feels warm and composed, enhancing both visual balance and long-term durability. Thoughtful lighting and fixture selections support task work and ambience, helping the room feel bright and welcoming throughout the day. Storage and surface decisions were made to support organization and everyday use. The result is a kitchen that elevates how the homeowners live and entertain, adding both functional clarity and lasting design quality to the home.
