DESIGN CONCEPT

This kitchen was reimagined to improve flow, increase usable storage, and create a cleaner, more cohesive layout while maintaining the existing footprint. The original space felt segmented with a closed-off pantry, heavy stone elements, and inconsistent cabinetry that limited function. The new design removes visual and physical barriers, introduces a more efficient working layout, and incorporates a warm, neutral palette with layered textures. A mix of painted cabinetry, natural wood tones, and copper accents creates contrast while still feeling cohesive. The addition of a peninsula adds prep space and casual seating, while improved lighting and a taller window bring more light into the space.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original layout consisted of a confined kitchen with a pantry enclosure that limited circulation and visibility. The stone facade wrapped portions of the kitchen, creating visual heaviness and breaking continuity. Appliances were spread out without strong functional zoning, and soffits reduced ceiling height and storage potential. A pass-through between rooms created partial connection but did not fully integrate the spaces. Overall, the layout lacked efficiency, storage, and openness.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

The updated layout removes the pantry walls and soffits to open the space and improve flow. The kitchen is restructured into a more functional working triangle with dedicated zones for cooking, prep, and storage. A new peninsula is introduced to provide additional workspace and seating while maintaining clear circulation paths. The pass-through is closed on the kitchen side and converted into a niche on the adjacent room side, allowing for a cleaner kitchen elevation. A larger, taller window replaces the existing one to increase natural light. Appliances are integrated into a cohesive wall layout, including a range wall with a statement hood, built-in refrigeration, and additional storage.

DETAILS:

CABINETS

Cabinetry is designed with a full overlay flat panel style to create a clean and timeless look. The main perimeter cabinetry is finished in a soft painted tone, while the peninsula introduces a darker contrasting color to ground the space. Storage solutions include integrated appliance panels, drawer storage, and specialty inserts to improve organization. Hardware is finished in a dark tone, providing contrast against the lighter cabinetry and tying into other accents throughout the space.

TILE AND STONE

The backsplash consists of a ceramic tile in a neutral tone installed in a horizontal offset pattern throughout the kitchen. A herringbone feature behind the range creates a focal point and is framed with a metal trim detail that ties into the copper hood. The niche area features a complementary tile in a slightly different tone to distinguish the space while maintaining cohesion. Countertops are quartzite with a polished finish, providing durability and a natural stone appearance that complements the cabinetry and flooring.

FINISHES

The overall finish palette is warm and neutral, combining painted cabinetry with natural textures and subtle contrast. Countertops are a polished quartzite in soft beige tones with taupe variation, adding depth without overpowering the space. The backsplash features a glossy ceramic tile in a horizontal offset pattern, with a herringbone accent behind the range for visual interest. A copper trim detail enhances the focal point at the cooking area. The flooring remains consistent with the rest of the home and is refinished to unify the space. Lighting includes recessed fixtures, under cabinet lighting, and decorative pendants to create layered illumination.
