Add Character with Cabinets

Timeless Style: A Simple Kitchen Design
A full kitchen remodel can dramatically change the appearance of your home. And while homeowners spend a lot of time and attention on details like countertops, appliances, flooring, tile, and paint colors, they don’t necessarily give the same amount of attention to their kitchen cabinets. Of course, the things mentioned above are important and deserving of careful consideration, but the cabinets are the largest and most visible part of your kitchen and can define your style. Below we will look at a few of the most popular styles of cabinetry and how they can add character to your kitchen remodel.

Shaker Style

Shaker style cabinets are known for their clean lines and farmhouse style, generally characterized by raised panels around the doors and drawer edges. Shaker cabinets add a simple elegance and are popular because the fit so well into Contemporary Farmhouse style kitchens.

Raised Panel

Raised Panel cabinetry is the opposite of Shaker Style. While Shaker Style has raised edges, Raised Panel has the center panel of the door or drawer raised slightly. They also offer variations such as arched tops. Raised Panel is extremely popular because it can fit so many styles – it can work in a modern, classic, or farmhouse style.

Slab Cabinets

Slab Cabinets are as simple as they come. Doors and drawers have nothing extra – they are smooth and bare with no raised panels and often without handles or pulls. They are ideal for homeowners looking for an ultra-modern or European feel.

Glass Front, Open Cabinets, & Shelves

These styles of cabinets have become more popular recently because they offer an airy feel that “opens up” the room. The downside is that it is necessary to keep the cabinets clean and organized, which is why many install only a few glass front or open cabinets to feature “the good dishes,” wine glasses and accoutrements, or ornamental pieces.

There are certainly more styles of cabinetry then mentioned above, but these are the ones we see most often. When it comes down to it, your choice of cabinetry should be based on your preferences and your budget, but if you need help, we have designers on staff that can walk you through your choices.
