Doylestown Master Suite Addition

DESIGN CONCEPT

A couple was expanding their family and needed more space. They also frequently host out-of-town relatives, so they needed to expand their existing home. They decided the best use of the additional space was a large master bedroom, a walk-in closet, and an office over the existing garage. This would open up the existing bedrooms to guests and the new addition to their family.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The existing home was a charming four-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bathroom, two-story house with an attached garage. The bedrooms, however, were situated close together, which could be noisy or disruptive for a newborn. In addition, the walk-in closet in the existing master bedroom was cramped, so they wanted something more efficient.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

In the new floor plan, we created a separate wing for the master bedroom by adding an addition over the garage. This provided the children and extended family with their own, dedicated space. The new master suite above the garage is larger than the original and allows for a larger walk-in closet, a new master bathroom, and two office spaces. We ensured continuity by using similar flooring as the rest of upstairs throughout the addition. We added seven windows to maximize natural lighting in each room, which highlights their new wallpaper and neutral finishes, making the space feel completely fresh and open.

FINISHES

Our client opted for neutral finishes to complement an accent wall and create a spa-like feeling. We selected celery-colored tiles for the shower, marble honed mosaic tiles for the shower niche and floor, and matte black accessories for a sleek, modern touch.

CABINETS

To maintain the neutral aesthetic, they selected Galaxy Shaker-style cabinets in “timber” finish with flat black hardware for a touch of contrast. The countertops are Emerstone in Nacia, and feature taupe and white-beige tones, which complements the overall design. The bathroom renovation also included floor-to-ceiling cabinets that significantly increases storage space.

TILE & STONE

The gray matte porcelain Esmer tiles create a stony, rocky feel in the bathroom. The countertops and the woodland wallpaper beautifully represent nature in various forms. The accent wallpaper makes the celery-colored shower tiles pop, while the Carrara nature flower mosaic tiles in the shower niche and floor add a stunning touch.
