Flemington First Floor Remodel

DESIGN CONCEPT

This family was looking to update their first-floor kitchen and bathroom to allow for a better utilization of space and increased functionality. The concept we designed seamlessly marries practicality with a Modern, elegant aesthetic that ensures both efficiency and sophistication in every detail.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original floor plan featured a secondary laundry room on the first floor that we expanded into to allow for a larger kitchen and better functionality for their family. The bathroom had a window and a neo-angle stall shower that limited space in both the shower itself and the bathroom as a whole. We replaced the floor with lighter hardwood flooring and refinished the existing stairwell for a seamless transition.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

We opened up both spaces by taking out the laundry room and pantries in the kitchen. We removed the window and angled shower in the bathroom to include a larger, half-walled shower complete with a glass door and panels.

The whole first floor features a Transitional style with a Contemporary flair and includes new hardwood floors that continue to the newly refinished staircase. The newly remodeled kitchen boasts a 10ft island, double ovens, and an under-cabinet beverage fridge. We included cabinetry in the dining room for additional storage. In the bathroom, we removed the window to extend the shower and expand the space.

Cabinetry Hardware: The Finishing Touch

FINISHES

This family was looking for a clean Contemporary style to update their first floor. To give their space a chic, modern look, we went with a high-contrast palette of dark blue and white. The brushed brass perimeter hardware and plumbing fixtures bring warmth to the space and elevate the Contemporary look, while the leather drawer pulls add visual interest and texture. The pendant lights over the island draw the eye upward into the space and follow the brushed brass finish of the room’s hardware.
Choosing the Right Cabinetry

CABINETS

This kitchen’s perimeter and island cabinetry is made by Wellborn Cabinets in their Amelia door style in the color “Oyster White.” The contrasting island and dining room cabinetry are the same Amelia style in the color “Bleu.” To keep the first floor consistent, the same style cabinets are also featured in the newly renovated bathroom.

TILE & STONE

To keep with the clean, Transitional theme of the room, the family selected MSI’s “Calacatta Miraggio” countertop for use around the perimeter of the kitchen. For added contrast, Dekton’s “Trance” line was chosen for the island countertop. In the bathroom, you can see the same countertops as the kitchen, with MSI’s “Calacatta Miraggio” being utilized again for the sink counter. The family decided on a white subway tile under the chair rail and within the shower to give the space a modern, yet timeless feel. The shower floor is MSI’s Basket Weave tile, and the accent wall in the shower is their “Kenzzi” tile.
