Glen Mills First Floor Remodel
DESIGN CONCEPT
As this family expanded over the years, their original first-floor layout became increasingly cramped and outdated. We transformed the space by seamlessly integrating modern design elements with the home’s existing colonial style, creating a harmonious blend that updates the functionality while preserving the charm of the original aesthetics.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN
The original floor plan contributed to congestion, with the poorly placed kitchen disrupting the flow of the room. The lack of storage in the cabinetry, an unsightly laundry room right at the garage entrance, and a cramped powder room further added to the challenges of the space.NEW FLOOR PLAN
This remodel transformed the home’s structure by introducing newly designed spaces, including a laundry room, mudroom, and a dedicated dog station. We installed a slider door and additional windows to enhance the functionality and natural light. To alleviate the cramped feel of the kitchen, we incorporated lighter recessed lighting, brighter cabinetry, and repositioned the island to create a subtle separation from the living room. Every cosmetic choice, from the cabinetry and paint to the tiling and lighting, was carefully selected to brighten the space and eliminate its previously grunge-like appearance.

FINISHES
The family wanted to infuse modern elegance into their kitchen while brightening the space. To achieve this, we chose a mix of matte black plumbing fixtures, classic white subway tiles, and added essential recessed lighting to create a sleek and inviting atmosphere.

CABINETS
The original cabinetry was outdated and confined, so our design team introduced fresh, white, floor-to-ceiling cabinets. This choice perfectly complements the stove’s tiled backsplash and provides a clean backdrop to contrast with the island and flooring colors. We relocated the stove from the island to the new feature wall, allowing us to place the sink in its place, creating a central feature. Discreet cabinets installed on the sides of the island were added for seamless cooking functionality, making this kitchen both stylish and practical.
TILE & STONE
White cabinets provided us with a blank canvas, allowing us to introduce color while brightening the space. We added contrast with dark fixtures, rustic chestnut flooring, and striking blue island cabinetry. The family also requested a designated dog wash area, which we designed with matte arctic white tiles and dark marble hexagon flooring. Even their beloved dog got a stylish upgrade!
