DESIGN CONCEPT

The goal of this renovation was to modernize the home while preserving its warmth and character. The design introduces a more functional layout, increased storage, and a cohesive material palette that connects the mudroom, kitchen, pantry, primary suite, and bathroom. Clean-lined millwork, warm wood tones, painted cabinetry, and layered textures create a balanced aesthetic that feels both timeless and updated. The original layout featured a compartmentalized kitchen with limited storage and circulation challenges. The mudroom lacked built-in organization, and the pantry provided minimal functionality. Within the primary suite, the bathroom and closet areas did not maximize available square footage or storage opportunities. Existing finishes throughout the home relied heavily on warm wood cabinetry and beige-toned tile.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original layout featured a compartmentalized kitchen with limited storage and circulation challenges. The mudroom lacked built-in organization, and the pantry provided minimal functionality. Within the primary suite, the bathroom and closet areas did not maximize available square footage or storage opportunities. Existing finishes throughout the home relied heavily on warm wood cabinetry and beige-toned tile.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

The redesigned layout improves circulation and functionality throughout the primary living spaces. The kitchen was reconfigured to provide expanded cabinetry, a larger island, improved workflow, and dedicated storage solutions. The mudroom now incorporates custom built-ins that support daily organization and create a more intentional arrival experience. The pantry was redesigned with custom cabinetry, countertops, and open shelving to maximize storage and accessibility. Within the primary suite, the bathroom and closet were reimagined to create a more spacious, organized, and luxurious environment with dedicated storage, improved fixture placement, and enhanced visual openness.

DETAILS:

CABINETS

Cabinetry plays a central role in the design, combining painted and stained finishes to establish visual contrast. The kitchen features perimeter cabinetry in a light painted finish paired with a richly stained island and accent cabinetry. The mudroom incorporates floor-to-ceiling storage with integrated seating and decorative hardware. The pantry includes painted cabinetry, functional work surfaces, and open shelving for everyday organization. Custom closet storage maximizes functionality while maintaining a clean, tailored appearance.

TILE AND STONE

Tile and stone selections were chosen to provide durability while elevating the overall aesthetic. The kitchen incorporates a glazed tile backsplash that introduces texture and color while complementing the cabinetry palette. Quartz surfaces provide a clean, durable work area throughout the kitchen and pantry. In the primary bathroom, large-format tile creates a seamless appearance across floors and wet areas, while contrasting stone surfaces add depth and sophistication. The material selections work together to create a cohesive transition between spaces while maintaining a timeless design.

FINISHES

The finish palette combines crisp painted surfaces with warm wood accents to create contrast and depth. White walls and trim brighten the interior while allowing architectural details and millwork to stand out. Natural wood flooring provides warmth throughout the primary living areas, while brass accents introduce a refined and cohesive finish. The overall palette balances light and dark elements to create a clean, welcoming aesthetic.
