DESIGN CONCEPT

This kitchen renovation was designed to transform a previously segmented and dated space into a refined, highly functional centerpiece of the home. The concept balances classic architectural detailing with modern performance, creating a timeless aesthetic grounded in warmth and contrast. Perimeter cabinetry in a soft painted finish establishes a bright and elegant backdrop, while the richly stained island anchors the space with depth and visual weight. Layered lighting, warm metallic accents, and subtle stone movement introduce texture and sophistication. The overall design prioritizes symmetry, clean lines, and a seamless connection to adjacent living spaces, resulting in a kitchen that supports both everyday living and entertaining.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original layout was compartmentalized, with visual and physical barriers separating the kitchen from surrounding areas. A soffit along the perimeter cabinetry limited ceiling height and made the space feel compressed. A low wall and column near the sink disrupted circulation and sightlines. Cabinetry was limited in both storage and functionality, and the layout lacked a strong focal point or defined work zones. Flooring transitions between materials further segmented the space, while outdated lighting and finishes contributed to an overall lack of cohesion and openness.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

The redesigned layout removes key structural and visual barriers, including the soffit, low wall, and column, to open the kitchen to adjacent spaces and improve flow. A dual-island configuration introduces dedicated zones for prep, seating, and entertaining, while maintaining clear circulation paths. The primary cooking wall is centered and symmetrical, anchored by a statement hood and flanked by full-height cabinetry. A secondary bar area adds functionality and storage, while integrated appliances and expanded cabinetry maximize efficiency. Electrical and plumbing systems were reconfigured to support the new layout, including updated lighting, under-cabinet illumination, and relocated fixtures.

The island cabinetry contrasts with a deep, rich wood stain, creating a focal point and adding dimension. Storage solutions include tall pantry units, deep drawers, roll-outs, and integrated specialty storage for enhanced organization. Decorative elements such as crown molding, toe-kick detailing, and furniture-style island legs elevate the overall design while maintaining consistency with the home’s architectural character.

TILE AND STONE

The backsplash features a classic rectangular tile in a neutral tone with a glossy finish, installed in a clean, linear pattern that complements the cabinetry and countertops. A coordinating grout color maintains a cohesive appearance while subtly defining the tile layout. Edge trim provides a polished transition at terminations. The countertop stone carries through to the backsplash at key focal areas, reinforcing continuity and elevating the visual impact of the cooking zone.

Countertops feature a polished stone surface with soft veining, creating a clean yet dynamic visual foundation. Flooring consists of continuous hardwood, seamlessly integrated and stained to complement the existing home. Lighting selections—including pendant fixtures, sconces, and recessed lights—add depth and layered illumination, enhancing both function and ambiance.
