Yardley Kitchen Remodel

DESIGN CONCEPT

The homeowner wanted a “classy” space perfect for entertaining. The overall concept of this remodel was to combine functionality with a chic Contemporary style to improve flow with the entire first floor. The finished kitchen exudes the Contemporary style that the homeowner was looking for, and the redesigned space is perfect for entertaining.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original layout had the dining room and living room sectioned off from the kitchen by full walls, restricting flow between rooms. The dining room also had a bay window next to the peninsula, which limited the expansion of the kitchen. These two features sectioned off the kitchen/dining room from the family room hampering entertaining potential, which was a main motivator for this remodel. The homeowners’ goal was to keep the existing footprint of the kitchen, modernize it, and increase the functionality of the space.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

In the new floor plan design, we removed the peninsula cabinets to join the dining and kitchen areas together, allowing for better utilization of space. We replaced the bay window in the dining area with continuous countertops and additional cabinetry for additional storage and prep space. To provide more natural lighting and a better view of the backyard, we made space for a larger window above the sink. And included an island with barstool seating for entertaining. We also expanded the opening to the dining room and reduced the family room’s full wall into a half wall.

FINISHES

The finishes of this kitchen are Contemporary with a touch of Traditional, making this project truly timeless. Under-counter appliances blend seamlessly with the perimeter and island cabinetry complements the simple Contemporary vibe of the space. Brushed nickel hardware against the matte black plumbing and lighting fixtures give the kitchen a Modern feel and create balance within the space. The contrasting blue base and island cabinetry with the white quartz countertops and wall cabinetry create a vibrant and clean Modern feel while the white subway backsplash tile adds a Classic element.

CABINETS

The wall cabinets are from Wellborn in their Amelia style doors in the color of “Bright White.” To contrast with the wall cabinets, the base and island cabinets are a combination of Wellborn’s Amelia-style doors and Slab-style drawers, all in their “Sapphire” color.

TILE & STONE

To keep with the vibrant and modern theme of the kitchen, MSI’s “Calacatta Versailles” was chosen for the countertop and island. For a more Classic touch, the backsplash is MSI’s Urbano subway tile in “Glossy White.”
