Newtown Basement Remodel
DESIGN CONCEPT
This basement transformation was designed to create a bright, multi-functional living space that blends comfort and style. With an open-concept layout, the space integrates a cozy living area, kitchenette, and natural transitions to outdoor living. The design emphasized clean lines, natural light, and soft textures to contrast the industrial ceiling, which was purposefully left exposed and painted black for a modern, loft-like aesthetic.

NEW FLOOR PLAN
The new basement layout includes clearly defined rooms that support both function and comfort. Two bedrooms, a full bathroom, a spacious living area, and a kitchenette have been added, transforming the space into a self-contained lower level. New walls were framed to create private areas, while electrical work and new finishes brought the space up to modern standards. A set of French doors now connects the living area to the outdoors, improving natural light and accessibility. Rough-ins were installed for future laundry appliances, while key elements like baseboard heating and storage were preserved and integrated into the design.

FINISHES
Throughout the finished basement, luxury vinyl plank flooring in the “Westminster” finish provides a warm, wood-inspired foundation that’s both durable and low maintenance. Walls were painted in a selection of timeless neutrals, including Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige, Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray, and Strand of Pearls, depending on the room. White semi-gloss trim adds contrast and crisp detailing, while the exposed ceiling, painted flat black, offers an intentional industrial accent that enhances ceiling height and architectural interest.

CABINETS
In the kitchenette, the cabinets were selected for their clean, transitional style and flat center panel design. These painted cabinets feature a full overlay and 5-piece drawer fronts, paired with matte black Malin cabinet pulls from Atlas Hardware to echo the black ceiling and fixtures. In the bathroom, the same cabinetry style was chosen in “Denim Blue,” providing a rich contrast and focal point in the vanity area while maintaining design continuity through hardware and layout.

TILE & STONE
The kitchenette backsplash features glossy tiling installed in a classic 50/50 offset pattern for added texture and shine. Quartz countertops were used throughout the kitchenette and Calacatta Miraggio in the bathroom offering the look of natural stone with the durability of engineered surfaces. In the shower, a Wolf Shower System was used for the walls and base, bringing the elegance of a marble look with the ease of prefabricated panels. The shower is enclosed with a matte black Kohler Levity sliding glass door, completing the space with sleek, modern lines.
