Recently, a family living in Media, PA came to us looking to transform their first floor into a more functional and natural space. Their goal was to blend style and nature. In this blog, we’ll explore the details of their remodel and see how they achieved balance and practicality in their home.
Creating More Open Space
In the original space, there were walls dividing the den, sunroom, and kitchen, which made it hard to move around and limited the potential of each room. By removing walls, the family achieved a seamless connection between the spaces. This change made the rooms flow into one another smoothly, making it a great place for family gatherings and entertaining guests.
Bringing Nature Inside
Since their home overlooked a beautiful backyard filled with trees, the family wanted to incorporate nature into their design. They used natural colors and materials to connect their home to their peaceful surroundings. The addition of wood cabinets, matching the dark wood floors, created a warm feel. Brown and green earth tones were used throughout to support the warm and relaxing vibe.
Paying Attention to Details
A remodel’s success often hinges on the details. In this case, we added a spacious kitchen island that became the center of attention, connecting the sunroom and kitchen. We also replaced a full door with a modern pocket door, improving functionality and creating a more open feel between the kitchen and mudroom. Additionally, we designed a bar area between the den and office now makes entertaining easier.
The homeowners selected Legacy Crafted cabinets, specifically the Milton Full Overlay style, for consistency throughout the first floor. The kitchen island and mudroom cabinets were stained with “Stained Suede” to match the dark wood flooring. The upper cabinets had a neutral “Anew Gray” tone, which blended well with the overall design. Matte black accents in fixtures and drawer pulls further bolstered the look.
The countertops and backsplashes added elegance and functionality to the space. The family opted for MSI’s Calacatta Prado countertops to strike a balance between modern style and classic earth tones. In the mudroom, they chose a Denmark-style backsplash tile that added color and texture, giving the area its own personality. And in the kitchen, a Portmore “White” tile backsplash extended up to the ceiling, to create eye-catching first impression.
A Stunning Home Transformation
This Media first-floor remodel showcases the importance of thoughtful design. By combining practicality, colors, textures, and finishes, we helped the family create a design that reflects their love for nature. The result is an inviting, elegant, and versatile space that combines modern aesthetics with the timeless beauty of the surrounding woods.
