Doylestown Kitchen and Mudroom Remodel

DESIGN CONCEPT

This remodel combines function and warmth with a mix of painted and stained cabinetry, polished quartz countertops, and natural wood accents. A full-height quartz backsplash at the range creates a striking focal point, while floating wood shelves bring texture and balance. The design maximizes storage with custom inserts, rollouts, and tall pantry cabinets, paired with upgraded appliances and layered lighting to create a highly functional and elevated kitchen and laundry space.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original layout featured a traditional kitchen with perimeter cabinets, a separate pantry, a mudroom and laundry space, and a small bar area. The cabinetry and appliances were standard and offered limited custom storage solutions. Hardwood flooring was present in the kitchen, while older tile covered the mudroom and laundry. Several walls and cabinets were marked for removal in order to improve the flow and create a more connected design.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

The new plan transforms the space with a large island that incorporates both bar seating and hidden storage. The pantry has been redesigned with tall cabinets, roll-out trays, and a dedicated pantry system for better organization. The butler’s pantry now features wine storage and clear glass upper cabinets for display. The mudroom includes a custom drop-zone with painted cabinetry, tall storage, a utility sink, and a butcherblock bench for added functionality. The laundry has been refreshed with slate flooring, new cabinetry, and counter space to improve efficiency. High-performance appliances complete the kitchen, elevating it into a chef-worthy centerpiece of the home.

CABINETS

The kitchen perimeter and bar cabinetry are finished in a soft painted tone with a raised panel design, while the island introduces contrast with warm stained wood. The mudroom and entryway cabinetry are painted in a deeper accent color and designed in a flat panel style for a streamlined look. Storage is enhanced with pull-outs, a corner organizer, waste basket storage, tray dividers, and a tilt-out sink tray. The bar area includes a wine cubby, while crown molding, base molding, and decorative side panels provide a finished, built-in appearance throughout.

TILE AND STONE

Countertops in the kitchen and bar are finished in a polished quartz with eased edges, while the mudroom and entryway surfaces feature a suede-finished stone in a deep charcoal tone. A butcherblock bench in the laundry is stained to coordinate with the island cabinetry, tying the palette together. The backsplash in the kitchen and laundry is a classic glossy white subway tile, while the bar area is accented with a warm terracotta-toned subway tile for added character. Flooring in the kitchen remains the original hardwood, while the mudroom, entry, and patio entry are updated with matte gray porcelain tile in a slate look for durability and texture.

FINISHES

The finishes are a carefully curated mix of painted and stained wood cabinetry, quartz countertops, floating stained maple shelves, and slate flooring. The perimeter countertops and full-height backsplash at the range wall are crafted from polished Pental Quartz Malana, while the mudroom and entry feature Silestone Charcoal Soapstone in a suede finish for contrast. Warmth is introduced with wood tones, including a stained chestnut island base and coordinating butcher block in the laundry.
