Ringoes First Floor Remodel

DESIGN CONCEPT

This family approached us for a kitchen and mudroom remodel. They wanted a design that seamlessly blended functionality with contemporary aesthetics. Our approach focused on optimizing space for social gatherings and daily activities, enhancing lighting, elevating the space design, and using the flexibility of neutral colors.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original floor plan had a dry bar that separated the kitchen from the dining room and an open floor plan into the living room area. The family wanted an inviting place to host events, more seating at their island, and expanded pantry space.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

The new floor plan eliminated the unnecessary banister railing between the kitchen and living room, erasing the illusion of separation. We completely overhauled the dry bar section to expand the kitchen and provide ample room for a pantry, upgraded appliances, and extended counter space. We gained additional space by removing the previous kitchen wall, which allowed for a larger island that offered more seating and electrical outlets.

White icing paint on the cabinets ceiling minimized noise. Additionally, the new cabinets extend to the ceiling, which solved the pantry space issue. We installed three different types of lighting above each section of the kitchen that offered versatility for various functions and ambiance. Larger tiles on the floors made cleaning and created a functional mudroom area that reduces the spread of outdoor dirt throughout the home.

FINISHES

The family requested a kitchen with modern luxury and a neutral palette. Our selections included stainless steel appliances complemented by striking black hardware and cabinetry, all set against exquisite Emerstone countertops.

CABINETS

We deliberately chose contrasting colors for the kitchen cabinetry to create a striking day-night neutrality. In the mudroom, a serene shade of eucalyptus embodies the space’s earthy essence. Both eggshell and eucalyptus cabinetry blend well with black hardware and plumbing fixtures, perfectly complementing the black kitchen island and stainless-steel appliances. This cohesive choice not only adds visual interest but also makes cleaning easier, ensuring a tidy kitchen with ample storage options.

TILE & STONE

Our client did not want smaller tiles, which quickly accumulated dirt due to young children and frequent accidents. We used large 24 x 36” Renaissance Taupe stone-look tiles in the kitchen that complement the Trance Mesmerist kitchen backsplash and Emerstone countertops seamlessly and are much easier to clean.
