DESIGN CONCEPT

This family wanted to bring their dated Mid-Century Modern bathroom into the modern era. They wanted to update the bathroom cosmetically and optimize space without changing the footprint.

ORIGINAL FLOOR PLAN

The original room had a built-in platform tub that limited the space and a small stall shower. Built-in sink vanities were located on opposite sides of the room, which made it feel disjointed and inefficient.

NEW FLOOR PLAN

We replaced the Mid-Century Modern built-in platform tub with a modern, free-standing tub. We expanded the existing shower, which gave it room for a built-in seat, and removed one vanity and installed a double sink vanity in its place. The space created by the removal of the second vanity allowed room for a makeup and hair station for her.

FINISHES

The new Contemporary design features a cohesive mixture of texture, color, and shape. The lighting fixtures and accessories are a champagne bronze finish that adds a touch of luxury to the room. The Matte Black fixtures and hardware create contrast and emphasize the new modern and timeless style. The shower footprint was enlarged, and we added an in-shower storage area, a double shower head, and a Contemporary glass shower door.

CABINETS

The cabinets are LBK custom cabinets in a walnut finish and a clear coat to protect them from water damage. They feature a solid panel door to highlight the beautiful grain of the wood.

TILE & STONE

The flooring is a matte black hexagon tile from Tile Bar. The shower floor is a smaller marble hexagon tile with a glazed finish, which adds contrast with the floor tile. The shower features a wood-looking mosaic tile in a chevron pattern which adds a focal point to the room and compliments the natural wood grain of the custom cabinetry. The shower also includes white square tile on the side walls, the shower seat, and the niche. For contrast, the shower niche is patterned in a diamond pattern rather than in traditional rows.
